Q. I have an article's DOI number. How do I find the article?

Digital object identifier (DOI) is a unique alphanumeric string assigned by a registration agency (the International DOI Foundation) to identify content and provide a persistent link to its location on the Web. The publisher assigns a DOI when an article is published and made available electronically. The DOI is unique to each individual work. More information about DOI's can be found in this FAQ response.

To quickly navigate to catalog that allows for DOI searches, use the Full-text Journal/Article Finder.

More detailed instructions about navigating to the Full-Text Finder from the Library homepage and searching by DOI is outlined below:

Navigate to the Iona College Library home page. Click the link to A Guide to Research Essentials under the search bar.
On the Research Guides page, select the tab Find Articles in Research Databases.
Locate the box "Search by DOI, Article Title, Journal Name, and More."
Click on the first link, Find an exact article by its citation information. This link opens the Full-text Journal/Article Finder search page.
The Full-text Journal/Article Finder search page has several different searching options, including searching by Title, Author, Publication Title, and Identifier. Navigate to "Identifier," and choose "DOI" in the drop-down menu. In the box to the right of the drop-down menu, type the DOI number of the article you are searching for beginning with "10.". If you are searching for the article "Interpersonal Surveillance on Social Media," then you would type the DOI 10.22230/cjc.2012v37n2a2536 into the search bar.
Once the DOI number is entered, click the "Search" button at the bottom of the page to search for the article.
If Iona College Libraries provides access, you will be directed to the article. If not, you will be prompted to request the item via Interlibary Loan.
