Per the APA Style guide, use the DOI if the source has both a DOI and a URL. If there is no DOI, use a URL as long as it is accessible (i.e., not behind a paywall).

Hyperlink the URL, and do not add a period in the end.

Example of an APA reference for a journal without a DOI:

Tsuchiyama, R. (2023). How to Elevate Customer Service with Japan's Kikubari. Hawaii Business, 1(2). http://rocky.iona.edu:2048/login?url=https://www.proquest.com/trade-journals/how-elevate-customer-service-with-japans-kikubari/docview/2781736513/se-2

Example of an APA reference for a journal with a DOI:

Arshad, M. R. (2021). The inevitable contingency of ethics on theistic foundations. Journal of Islamic Thought and Civilization, 11(1), 159–174. https://doi.org/10.32350/jitc.111.09
