Q. What if there is a spelling or grammar mistake in a citation I am using?

If you are quoting a source with a spelling or grammatical mistake, write [sic] in square brackets next to the error to indicate the mistake is not your own.

Example in APA style using [sic]

Taylor (2022) wrote that "parents are responsible for there [sic] children's actions" (p. 22).

You can avoid using [sic] by paraphrasing the point and adding a citation. 

Example in APA style paraphrasing and removing the misspelling

An argument can be made that parents are responsible for what their children do and say when these actions cause extreme harm (Taylor, 2022).
